What is a Radial Stacker Reclaimer?
The Radial Stacker Reclaimer is a high-efficiency bulk material handling machine designed for large-scale yards, widely used in cement plants, coal storage facilities, steel mills, mines, and other industrial sites. Its boom rotates radially, combined with longitudinal travel and bucket wheel or rake reclaiming, enabling high coverage uniform stacking and continuous reclaiming within the yard. During the stacking and reclaiming process, the equipment also pre-homogenizes materials, ensuring stable properties for coal, ores, cement clinker, or steel, and providing consistent feed for downstream processes.
The Radial Stacker Reclaimer offers high continuous operation, seamlessly integrating with plant conveyor systems for 24/7 automated operation. Its modular design and use of wear-resistant materials ensure long-term reliability, easy maintenance, and extended service life. The machine enhances yard turnover efficiency, optimizes space utilization, reduces labor costs, and serves as a key solution for efficient, continuous, and automated material handling in large industrial yards.
Working Principle of Radial Stacker Reclaimer
The working principle of the Radial Stacker Reclaimer centers around a fixed central pivot point. It achieves efficient coverage and continuous operation over a large fan-shaped or circular stockyard area through the compound motion of the boom’s slewing, luffing, and the machine’s travel.
Stacking Operation: During stacking, material from the main conveying system is received via a central feed hopper or a movable tripper car located at the machine’s slewing center. It is then transferred onto the stacking conveyor belt mounted along the boom. The machine activates according to its preset program: first, the boom is positioned over the target stacking area through large-angle horizontal rotation by the slewing mechanism. Simultaneously, the luffing mechanism adjusts the discharge end height to form the desired pile cross-section. During continuous stacking, the machine can also perform slow arc travel along ground rails, thereby layering the material into a fan-shaped or a complete circular pile that unfolds around the central point. This “slewing + travel” compound motion allows it to cover a stockyard area far exceeding the length of its boom.
Reclaiming Operation: When switched to reclaiming mode, the bucket wheel or scraper-type reclaimer at the boom’s front begins rotation. The reclaimer cuts into the pile face, excavates, and lifts the material. The material then falls onto the reclaiming conveyor belt on the boom, which transports it in the opposite direction to stacking, toward the central discharge hopper at the machine’s pivot, ultimately merging into the main underground or ground-level output system. Reclaiming also relies on precise coordinated motion: the machine travels along the rail while slewing its boom, causing the reclaimer to perform “planing” operations radially or tangentially along the pile face. By controlling the ratio of travel speed to slewing angular velocity, uniform and continuous reclaiming can be achieved across the entire pile face—from outer edge to inner circle or from top layer to bottom—effectively accomplishing material blending and homogenization.

- Advantages of Radial Stacker Reclaimer
The radial stacker reclaimer combines wide coverage, flexible operation, and continuous handling. Its design saves investment and space, while supporting automation upgrades, making it a highly efficient and reliable choice for yard operations.
Wide Coverage and Flexible
The radial stacker reclaimer rotates around a central pivot and travels along the yard, covering a large area far beyond fixed machines of similar boom length. It easily adapts to irregular terrain, surrounding structures, narrow ports, or mine yards, allowing a single unit to manage the entire yard efficiently.Low Investment and Cost Efficient
With a simple structure, there is no need for expensive long conveyors or complex ground tracks, greatly reducing initial investment. Its high mobility allows one machine to serve multiple storage areas, saving equipment numbers and space, maximizing ROI, ideal for limited budgets or phased construction projects.Flexible Operation and Multi-Function
The machine can switch quickly between stacking, reclaiming, and pass-through modes. By adjusting boom rotation, luffing height, and travel position, it can handle different types of materials, stack patterns, and precise reclaiming needs. Suitable for ports, transfer yards, raw material plants, and multi-client storage areas.Easy Installation, Expandable and Relocatable
Modular design and simple support structure shorten installation time and reduce foundation requirements. Future capacity expansion can be done by extending the boom or adding new units. Some models can even be relocated, making them suitable for temporary or leased yards.Strong Continuous Operation
Despite its high mobility, the machine provides stable handling capacities from hundreds to thousands of tons per hour. It can seamlessly integrate with plant conveyors, ensuring continuous material supply for large power plants, cement factories, and mines that require high throughput.Ready for Intelligent Upgrades
The equipment can integrate GPS, laser scanning, and collision avoidance systems for semi-automatic or fully automatic stacking and reclaiming. This supports unmanned yard operation, reduces labor costs, and improves operational safety and efficiency.
